IMPORTANT NOTICE OF CLOSURE
On March 15, 2020 the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario informed all members that we are to suspend all non-essential and elective dental services due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As of Monday, March 16th, 2020 we must implement new restrictions on patient care. These restrictions will be reassessed from week to week.
This means that Milton Family Dental will be closed until further notice. We will be receiving an update from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons on or around April 1st, 2020 and will reassess the situation at that point.
If you have an appointment at Milton Family Dental for routine dental treatment (such as a checkup, cleaning or filling) between March 16th and April 1st, you should have already been contacted about cancelation and rebooking of your appointment.
We are currently restricting treatment to urgent or emergency care only. Examples of this includes:
Prolonged bleeding or pain which cannot be managed by over-the-counter medications
If you do require urgent care, please send an email to email@example.com and mark the subject with EMERGENCY. Messages left at the office will also be checked daily.
We regret that we must restrict our patient care this way, but are doing so to provide the safest care for our patients by following the advice of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario and the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. We feel that these steps are in the best interest of our patients, staff and our families, as well as those in our community at risk, from a health and safety perspective. We hope you understand and we thank you for your cooperation.
Stay healthy and keep smiling,
Dr. Evelyn Steinberg-Sugar and the Milton Family Dental team

Frequently Asked Questions
In order to better serve you, we have compiled the following information on our most frequently asked questions. As always, we welcome any unanswered questions or concerns you may have.
How much will my dentistry cost?
We strive to provide an accurate estimate of fees and appointment details (number/length) based on both your existing oral health and your overall health. Fees are based on the current Ontario Dental Association fee guide. Should any unforeseen circumstances arise that alter the course of treatment or fees, we will update you as soon as possible.
What is the customary payment policy?
Our customary policy is for payment in full at the time of service. Methods of payment include: cash, debit card, Visa, and MasterCard. If you would like to take advantage of a flexible financial arrangement, please speak to us prior to commencement of treatment.
Are X-rays safe?
Dental X-rays play an important role in the diagnosis of dental problems such as gum disease, dental decay and abscesses. However, many people are concerned about exposure to X-ray radiation. Our office features Computed Dental Radiography (CDR) by Schick. This digital radiography gives us the accurate images we need to properly treat your dental needs. Here are some important facts about Schick CDR:
Produces up to 90% less radiation than regular X-rays
Images are instantaneous since there is no film to process
Does not use any harsh chemicals that are used in conventional X-ray processing which means that we don’t need to worry about disposing of hazardous waste and hurting our environment
Images can be magnified up to 300X, color adjusted to reveal hidden problems, and manipulated to correct contrast – all of which can aid in the diagnosis of dental problems
What are your sterilization procedures?
Strict sterilization standards are a priority for us. To protect our patients and ourselves, staff members wear masks, gloves, and safety glasses while providing treatment for you. We also clean and disinfect all surfaces in the treatment rooms before each patient. All instruments and hand pieces (drills) are cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized after each patient, as recommended by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons, and whenever possible, disposable single-use items are utilized to ensure your safety. We welcome the opportunity to answer any sterilization questions you may have.
What if I have a special need?
We strive to exceed your expectations, so please let us know if you have any special needs or requests. Our goal is to provide quality dentistry in a comfortable and caring environment each and every visit.
How do my insurance benefits work?
Treatment recommendations are based on your specific health and/or pre-existing dental conditions. Insurance benefits are based on the contract negotiated between your employer and the insurance company, which means that not all recommended and/or necessary treatment is reimbursed. If knowing more about your insurance benefits is important to you, please let us know prior to your appointment date and we will be happy to assist you.
How often should I visit the dentist?
Our recommendation for frequency will be based on your personal oral health. What you do between visits affects your oral health, and therefore your recommended appointment frequency. Ask yourself the following questions:
Do I brush twice a day as instructed by my dentist and hygienist?
Do I floss or clean between my teeth and under my gum line?
Do I eat a well balanced diet, including food from all food groups, and limit sweets and sticky foods?
Do I smoke?
Do I have a history of cavities or gum disease?
Is my overall health good?
By combining personal efforts and our professional skill, we believe a healthy and attractive smile can be attained and maintained by most.
What if I need to change an appointment time?
We reserve appointment times exclusively for you. Should you need to change your appointment, please provide a minimum of two business days notice or a fee may apply. By extending this courtesy, we are able to offer the appointment time to another patient.
Isn't it just a cleaning?
Although you may take excellent care of your teeth at home with daily brushing and flossing, regular visits are vital for achieving and maintaining dental health. In addition, recent research indicates a strong link between dental health and overall health – such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
Your regular visit consists of an examination and a professional cleaning. In addition to an oral cancer screening, the examination provides an opportunity to detect early signs of decay, to ensure existing restorations (fillings) are functioning properly and to address problems in their early stages. A professional cleaning removes harmful bacterial plaque in areas that you may not be able to reach. If not removed, this bacterial plaque will accumulate causing both tooth decay and gum disease. Tooth decay is not reversible – the affected tooth requires restorative care. Caught early, gum disease is reversible. Advanced stages of gum disease, however, are not reversible. This is a concern, as gum disease is not only unattractive, it affects our taste buds, causes tooth sensitivity and is the primary cause of tooth loss in adults.
Professional cleanings reach areas that are being missed or simply can not be reached adequately with routine home care. It is much easier to proactively care for our health, and we believe that regular dental visits are an essential step in doing so.
Does dental treatment hurt?
Rest assured, dentistry has evolved to a level where care can comfortably be provided. Techniques are gentle, safe and precise, and our concern for your well being is genuine.
If there is anything we can do at any time to set you at ease and make your visits even more comfortable, please let us know.
